The diversity of habitat and environment on the Hawaiian islands is amazing. While the windward side (Hilo side) is wet, the leeward side (Kona side) is often very dry. The transition zone runs right through Waimea much of the time. This picture shows one of many cacti northwestward out of Waimea.
