Maui, Hawaii

MAP
Kim turned 23 years old today. To celebrate, I planned a trip with Paragon Sailing, after hearing plenty of good things about them. I couldn't decide between Paragon and Trilogy, but Paragon was a little less expensive and seemed to sail longer (from what I read).
Well, we didn't end up sailing at all. Now, there's not much the crew could do, since the trade winds were abnormally weak. We snorkeled for what seems like 45 minutes off the Lanai coast, and the quality was pretty good. We then motored to a small harbor, where we unloaded. After eating a pretty good lunch at a nearby beach, we loaded back onto the catamaran, and began motoring back to Maui. Nearly halfway between Lanai and Maui, we stopped and took a swim. The water was so incredibly clear and clean here! No swim mask was necessary; the water was so clean that it didn't hurt to open my eyes under water. The whole trip was pretty fun, but it got to be a little long and tiring just motoring around everywhere. The staff was very good, as were the food and beverages. For the amount of money spent, I'd rather have done something else. It didn't help much that we got sunburned, even though we wore SPF50 sunscreen.
After the trip, we went back to the Sheraton to shower and change for dinner. Speaking of which, the dinner was incredible! We ate at David Paul's in Lahaina, and I was impressed. Of course, I expected the food to be at least decent after seeing that they had several >$1000 bottles of wine. I wish I remember exactly what I had, but it was Opakaka and a whole lot of incredibly good stuff. Kim liked her dish (spinach, mushroom, apple, and cheese stuffed chicken wrapped in bacon with "yummy sauces") as well, though the desert (a triple-berry pie) was marginal and unnecessary (especially for the $13 price tag!). Overall, this was the best meal I had while in Hawaii.
